Bratislava old town by pragmatopian

During Spring or Summer, you can enjoy a wonderful day exploring the cobbled streets of the Old Town in Bratislava and spend some time visiting the local monuments and attractions, such as the Town Hall, Primates Palace, St. Martin’s Cathedral, numerous museums and of course Bratislava Castle.  However, at some point in the day you are going to want to take a break for a spot of lunch.

Those of you on a budget, may prefer to take a packed lunch and sit on a park bench overlooking the Danube.  And if it is a lovely sunny day, why not!  Others may decide to just get a quick burger and chips at one of the city’s McDonalds.  However, with just a little looking about, you might be able to enjoy a three course menu on a terrace, watching Bratislava bustle by, for not much more than the price of a Big Mac Meal.

Throughout the Old Town, between the hours of 12pm and 2pm, many of the smaller restaurants, cafes and bistros offer a set lunch menu for as little as 5 Euro.  Most display these menus on a little blackboard, quite often in English, so it is just a case of strolling around the streets until you see something that takes your fancy.  While the portions and quality of these menus may differ from establishment to establishment, a good guide to whether a place is worth a visit or not, is to see how many local businessman are tucking into a plate of the local cuisine.

So, happy hunting, and if you find a little bistro tucked away in a forgotten street somewhere, be sure to give it a shout out within the comments below.  Dobru chut!
